The Texas Center: A Bold Commitment to Tradition and Dialogue
In the summer of 2019, an important meeting took place at a coffee shop in Abilene. Dr. Travis Frampton, the provost of Schreiner University, and Dr. Don Frazier, a distinguished Texas educator, gathered to discuss an ambitious vision: The Texas Center, a place dedicated to fostering dialogue and understanding among Texans from all walks of life.
Schreiner University, a small but mighty institution nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country has long been known for its commitment to embodying and promoting the classic Texan virtues of spirit, fortitude, hope, and achievement. The idea for The Texas Center was born from this commitment, aiming to serve not just the local community but also to impact the nation and the world by being an “honest broker” in conversations that matter.
Dr. Frazier moved to Kerrville, bringing with him nearly three decades of experience as a college professor and educational entrepreneur. His relocation signified the beginning of The Texas Center’s journey, rooted in the principles that once animated all places of learning and poised to shape the future of intellectual discourse in Texas.
Today, what Schreiner is building on the banks of the Guadalupe River in Kerrville is poised to shape the future of the state and the nation . . . and is just getting started.
Remembering the Past, Preparing for the Future
Purpose: Preserve The True History of Texas
Texas is a big place and we make for big conversations. The need for an honest broker has never been more obvious.
As we grow boldly into the future, there are plenty of people who will tell you what they think the story of Texas is . . . and some who will even tell you what you think the story of Texas is.
But instead of dividing Texans, we are determined to be the place where the honest, enthralling and encouraging story of Texas is told.
After all, our mission is in our name, the Texas Center. We call our approach
E Pluribus, Texas® imprecise Latin for “out of many one Texas.” It describes our diversity united in one Common Passion, the Lone Star state.
The Texas Center helps natives and newcomers alike find their place in this big, glorious story.

The top winners of the school art competitions of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo are invited to Schreiner University to participate in an immersive four-week art education experience. Four professional artists—two painters and two sculptors—teach classical principles of art and allow students to display their individual creativity.
All art supplies are provided as well as housing, meals, tuition, field trips and after-hour entertainment. Classes are held Monday through Saturday from morning through afternoon and some evenings.
In addition to vastly increasing the students’ art skills and knowledge, the program also provides the opportunity to experience college life and prepare students for the future.
